Come build robots, microcontroller projects, and creative electronics in the Robot Garage. Bring your own project or pick one up when you arrive — we have everything you need to get building.
Robot Garage Projects is an open build day where students ages 10-18 can explore robotics, electronics, and fabrication in our fully equipped lab. The Robot Garage has a huge range of tools and materials: 3D printers, a lathe, machine tools, and a massive array of microcontrollers including Raspberry Pis, Arduinos, Micro:bits, and many others. We also have different kinds of robots, remote controls, programming modules, and plenty of Legos for prototyping.
Students can bring their own project — maybe a hack pack they bought, a school project, or something they dreamed up — and work on it with instructor support and access to all our tools and parts. Or, if you're not sure where to start, the instructor will give you a project idea and get you going. There are opportunities to build moving robots, wire up microcontroller projects, learn soldering, experiment with sensors, and much more.
This is a relaxed, creative environment where students work at their own pace. It's a great way to explore what interests you in robotics and electronics, and students who show strong aptitude may be invited to join our Robot Garage Apprentice program through League Labs.
Robot Garage Projects is offered through our Tech Club program, so to take this class, join the Tech Club and watch for announcements.
Our community programs remove financial and geographic barriers to quality computer science education. Through partnerships with schools, libraries, and community centers across San Diego County, we provide free Tech Club workshops, scholarship opportunities, and outreach initiatives. We work directly with Title I schools, community organizations, and local libraries to bring experienced instructors and hands-on programming curriculum to students who might not otherwise have access to these opportunities. Many students who begin in our free community programs continue on to our paid weekly classes as they advance their skills.
