About The League

A San Diego nonprofit where kids learn by making.

The League of Amazing Programmers teaches students in grades 3–12 to build real things with technology: first programs, then robots, then software people use. We take students through 8 levels of mastery, from beginner all the way to a job-ready, certified programmer. Along the way they learn to form ideas, run projects, work on teams, build with AI, and present their work.

Our mission

To help more youth, including girls and underserved students, acquire the skills and education needed to be leaders in the digital age, and contribute to the workforce of the 21st century.

We aim to create a positive impact on all students by helping them develop critical thinking skills and self-confidence through learning computer programming. We are a 501(c)(3): tuition from weekly classes and donations together keep Tech Club free, keep the Robot Garage stocked, and fund scholarships, laptops and internship stipends.

How a League student grows

Not a ladder of languages. A ladder of what they can build and who they can build it with.

Grades 3–5Make a thing that works: a game, a blinking robot, a turtle drawing. Learn that it's fine to break it.
Grades 5–8Make a thing with other people: a team project in Python or in the Robot Garage.
Grades 8–11Make a thing people use: Java to certification, an AI agent, a competition robot, a live website.
Grades 11–12Make a thing with professionals: League Labs, the AI Project Clinic, internships, research.

Coding jobs

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projected that over 1 million programming jobs in the U.S. would go unfilled by 2022. The League addresses this by teaching students to code, getting them interested at a young age so that they are more likely to pursue programming in college and in their careers.

Entry into the workforce

Our curriculum culminates in Oracle Professional Certification preparation, enabling graduates to enter the workforce as programmers immediately after high school without requiring a college degree.
